Bangaii Cardinal, Pterapogon Kauderni

Bangaii Cardinal, Pterapogon Kauderni

This unusual looking fish has been a favourite among aquarist for years.  It is found around the Bangaii Archipelago in Indonesia, hence its name.  It can grow to around 3 inches and is generally a safe addition to reef tanks.  This fish has recently been added to the IUCN red list as an endangered fish and experts are encouraging aquarists to breed this species at home.  These little fish are actually mouth brooders and after they release their babies they are generally protected by long spine urchins.  They will however accept surrogate urchins and once you acquire a true pair breeding can be quite a regular occurrence!   £70 a pair
